They’ve got jobs for people like us who’ve done ITI. I’ve applied a couple times, talked to buddies who made it, and learned a lot along the way. Why Railways Feel Right for Me
I grew up in a small town, and trains were everywhere. My dad used to say, “Get a railway job, and you’re set for life.” He wasn’t wrong Indian Railways is massive, like one of the biggest employers out there. For someone like me who didn’t want to study forever, my ITI diploma was my way in. If you’re new to this, ITI is just a course you do after 10th or 12th. It’s hands-on teaches you real skills. I picked electrician because I’d always fix stuff at home, and it took me two years to get that diploma. If you’ve got an ITI in something like fitter, welder, or machinist, you’re already halfway there.

Jobs I’ve Seen for ITI Folks
When I started looking, I was confused Group this, Group that, RRB, RRC. What’s it all mean? Took me a while, but I got the hang of it. Here’s what I’ve figured out about railway jobs for us ITI types.
- Group D Jobs: These are the basic ones. Stuff like Trackman or Helper. You just need 10th pass and your ITI. I tried for a Helper spot once didn’t get it, but my friend did. It’s hard work, like fixing tracks or carrying tools, but it’s a start.
- Group C Jobs: These are a bit higher up. Technician is a big one my cousin’s doing that now with his fitter diploma. Pays better, and you can move up if you stick with it. Junior Engineer too, but that’s tougher to crack.
- Apprenticeships: This is my favorite. Railways take ITI folks as apprentices train you, pay you a little (like 7-8 thousand a month), and sometimes keep you on after. I applied for one last year and almost made it. My buddy got in through Western Railway and loves it.

Where I Look for Vacancies
At first, I had no clue where to find these jobs. I’d hear about openings from random people, but by the time I checked, they were gone. Now I’ve got a system:
- RRB Sites: Railway Recruitment Boards put out the big job ads. There’s one for every zone like RRB Mumbai for me. I check their site (indianrailways.gov.in) all the time.
- RRC Sites: These are for Group D and apprentices. Western Railway’s RRC is my go-to. I’ve got it bookmarked now.
- Job Pages: I use FreeJobAlert.com when I’m too lazy to dig. It’s got all the latest stuff in one place.
- Newspaper: My uncle reads Employment News every week. It’s old-fashioned, but it works.

How I Applied (and Messed Up)
Applying’s not hard, but you’ve got to focus. Here’s how it went for me last time:
- Read the Ad: I found an apprentice post needed 10th and ITI electrician. I was 22, and the age limit was 15-24, so I was in.
- Fill the Form: Went online, typed my name, trade, marks all that. Uploaded my 10th mark sheet and ITI certificate. Took forever because my internet was slow.
- Pay Up: Cost me ₹100. Paid with my card easy enough.
- Hit Submit: Got a number at the end. I wrote it down because losing it’s a headache.
I messed up once before missed a deadline and felt like an idiot. Now I keep everything ready ahead of time.
What They Test You On
Getting in’s not just forms you’ve got to prove yourself. Here’s what I’ve seen:
- Written Test: Group D and some Group C jobs have this. It’s math, GK, and puzzles. I practiced with old papers helped a lot.
- Skill Check: For Technician, they might make you show your trade. My cousin fixed a circuit once said it was sweaty but fine.
- Physical Test: Group D needs this. Lift some weight, run a bit. I’d have to practice running I’m out of shape!
- Paper Check: They look at your certificates. Don’t fake anything people get caught.
- Health Check: Eyes, ears, all that. My friend failed because he couldn’t see colors right.
Apprenticeships are easier just your marks count. I like that no pressure of exams.
Money and Goodies
Pay’s why I’m chasing this. Group D starts at maybe ₹18,000-20,000. Technician’s more ₹25,000 or so. My cousin’s pulling ₹35,000 now with extras like house allowance. Plus, you get:
- Free train rides (so cool).
- Pension later.
- Doctor stuff for family.
- No getting fired easy.
That’s gold for me private jobs don’t care about you like that.
Hard Parts I Hit
It’s not all fun. I’ve had rough days:
- Too Many People: Everyone wants in lakhs apply. I just keep my head down and try.
- Waiting Forever: Results take months. I do small jobs to kill time.
- Getting Told No: First time hurt, but I learned from it.
