Hey there! If you’re reading this, maybe you’re like me a couple years ago just a 10th pass kid with no big degrees, wondering what’s next. I never thought I’d end up chasing a police job, but here I am, waiting to start training as a constable. It’s been a wild ride, full of sweat, stress, and a few wins. I want to tell you how I got here what it’s like hunting for police vacancies with just a 10th-grade certificate, the mess I went through, and some stuff I picked up along the way. It’s a long story, so maybe sit back with a chai or something. Let’s get started!
Where It All Began
I finished 10th grade in 2020. My marks weren’t amazing passed with like 55% but I was happy to be done. School wasn’t my thing, and my family couldn’t swing college anyway. My dad drives a tempo, and my mom stitches clothes at home, so money’s always tight. One day, my neighbor, Ravi bhaiya he’s a peon at the police station came over and said, “Arre, why don’t you try for a constable job? They take 10th pass people.” I laughed at first. Me? A cop? But then I started thinking about it.
I’d seen police guys around directing traffic, walking the streets in their khaki. It looked tough, but kind of important too. I didn’t have many options, so I figured, why not? That’s how it started.
Why Police Jobs Make Sense for 10th Pass
Police jobs are awesome if you’ve only got 10th done. In India, they’re a big deal steady work, a paycheck every month, and people look at you different. For me, it was a way out of just sitting around. The main job you can get is constable. It’s the bottom rung, but it’s a start. You can join your state police like Bihar Police or Andhra Pradesh Police or even central forces like SSB or ITBP.
The pay’s decent starts around 20,000 rupees a month, sometimes more with allowances. You get a place to live, doctor stuff covered, and a pension when you’re old. Plus, it’s a job you can grow in if you hang on. That’s what hooked me.

Looking for Openings
Finding these jobs was the first step. I didn’t have a phone then just an old Nokia with no internet so I’d bug my friend Sanjay to let me use his. I’d also check the newspaper whenever my dad brought one home. Police vacancies don’t come every day. Each state does its own thing, and you’ve got to catch the ads when they drop.
One time, Sanjay showed me an ad on his phone. It was for 2000 constable posts in my state, and it said 10th pass was enough. I got all pumped up! We went to the tea stall with Wi-Fi, and I looked up the details. It had all the rules age 18 to 25, height stuff, and tests you’d have to pass. I knew it’d be a fight, but I was ready to try.
Applying: A Total Headache
The application part was rough. I’d never done anything online before, and the form was confusing. You had to put your name, address, school stuff tons of boxes. I borrowed Sanjay’s phone again and sat there for hours, typing slow. I forgot to upload my mark sheet the first time and had to redo it. Lesson learned get your papers ready. Your 10th certificate, ID like Aadhaar, a photo scan them first.
The fee was 150 rupees. I didn’t have it, so I asked my mom. She grumbled but gave me the cash. I had to go to the bank, wait in line, and pay with a slip. When I finally hit submit and got a number on my email (well, Sanjay’s email), I felt like a champ. Step one, done!
Getting Ready: Lots of Work
The process has three parts a written test, physical stuff, and a medical check. Each one was its own battle.
The written test was first. It’s not crazy hard just basic math, GK, some brain teasers. I got a cheap GK book from the market and studied at night by a kerosene lamp. I’d write down things like “Who’s the PM?” or “What’s the longest river?” Math was tougher I’d forgotten most of it. I practiced adding fractions and stuff on scrap paper. No money for classes, so I’d watch videos at the tea stall when the Wi-Fi worked.
Physical test was next. You’ve got to run 1600 meters in like 6 minutes jump, and prove you’re not weak. I started running near my house. First day, I couldn’t even do 200 meters without stopping. My legs were jelly! But I kept at it every morning, dodging dogs and potholes. Height’s a thing too guys need 165 cm or so, girls less. I was barely over, so I was safe.
Medical was last. They check your eyes, ears, all that. I was worried about my ears I had an infection once but it was fine. Just don’t be sick that day!
My First Shot: Crashed and Burned
My first try was in 2022 1500 posts. I studied hard, ran a lot, thought I had it. The written test was okay GK was easy, but I messed up some math. Physical day was hot as hell. I ran okay, but the high jump? I landed flat on my back total fail. Everyone laughed, and I wanted to disappear.
Results came, and I wasn’t on the list. I felt like trash. My dad didn’t say much, just patted my shoulder. Sanjay said, “Next time, yaar.” I was mad, but I didn’t quit.
What I Learned and How I Got Back Up
That flop showed me I wasn’t ready. My running was okay, but jumping? Terrible. And big vacancies have lakhs of people trying too many to beat. I started looking for smaller ones, like jail warder posts or something, where it’s less crowded.
In 2024, I tried again 800 posts. I got smarter. I teamed up with Sanjay and a few other guys. We’d run together, quiz each other on GK like “Name five states!” and laugh when we forgot. The written test felt better this time. Physical was still sweaty, but I cleared the run and stuck the jump. When the list came out, my name was there! I shouted so loud my mom thought something was wrong. We got jalebis to celebrate.
What’s Up in 2025?
It’s April 2025 now, and I’m waiting for training. I still hear about jobs for my cousins who want in. Things move fast, but here’s what I know:
- State Police: Every state like MP, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu hires constables. Check their websites or ask around. MP’s got something big coming, I heard.
- Central Forces: BSF, CRPF take 10th pass folks. Pay’s around 20,000, but you might go to borders or jungles.
- Railways: RPF hires for train stuff. Sounds fun if you like moving around.
Look in papers or online. That’s how I found mine.
Tips from My Messy Journey
If you’re thinking about this, here’s what I’d tell you:
- Start Today: Don’t wait. Run a bit, read a bit get going.
- Check Rules: Age, height make sure you fit before applying.
- Practice Hard: Physical’s half the game. Run with a buddy it’s less lonely.
- Don’t Stop: I flopped once. You might too. Try again.
- Ask Around: Find someone who’s done it. They’ll help.
The Uniform Dream
Training’s coming soon. They say it’s tough drills, rules, more running but I’m excited. Being a cop, doing something real, making my parents smile that’s what I want.
If you’re 10th pass like me, wondering if you can do this, you can. It’s not easy, but it’s not fake either. Maybe you’ll get there. Maybe we’ll meet on the job someday, and you’ll tell me how you made it too.
Good luck, yaar!
